Acura is set to become something more than just a more premium Honda and they made it clear with the release of the NSX. Well, only a couple of weeks ago they released a teaser of one of their upcoming concepts which is expected to come at the Detroit Auto Show this month. The 2017 Acura Precision Concept is a unique car which doesn’t look like anything they currently have. While they have only released a picture of the car’s profile, it looks like Acura is moving towards something a bit more impressive than what they have now.
2017 Acura Precision Review
For starters, this all new car seems to be a four-door coupe and it does have the proportions of all those German or Italian super-sedans. On top of that, Acura themselves stated that this car is there to set the direction for their future luxury sedans and if this is even remotely true then we are pretty sure that Acura will surprise us with the end result. There are no plans to put the car into production for now but as far as we can tell, the car has a real chance of getting on the market, especially after we’ve seen the NSX come into fruition.
There are no words on the engine found in this new car but some rumors suggest that it will showcase Acura’s upcoming hybrid drivetrain. Our best candidate for this new engine is the one found on the NSX, a 3.5 liter twin-turbocharged V6 with around 400 horsepower and over 400 lb-ft of torque which will drive the rear wheels via a 9 speed automatic gearbox. The front should also be powered by a set of electric motors that will up the power to around 450 horsepower and 500 lb-ft of torque, more than enough to allow the 2017 Acura Precision Concept to match or surpass the performance of most other luxury sedans on the market. On top of that, unlike all of their current models, this new car is actually expected to come on a rear wheel drive platform which would allow Acura to compete with premium manufacturers such as Alfa Romeo or BMW.
The interior will likely be able to house four people on the concept car but a future production model will be able to handle one more. Considering the design of the car, the trunk should be more than enough for what it is but we don’t expect it to have something out of the ordinary.
