Despite the fact Bentley is one of the most respected luxury car manufacturers in the World, their sales’ volume is quite small when compared to that of the bigger manufacturers and that is partly because they do not have an SUV in their roster. In order to fix that, a new model is going to be released in the near future. The 2017 Bentley Bentayga will be an all new car which Bentley expects to improve its sales by at least 90% which may not seem like a lot but this would allow them to further develop their cars and also make more vehicles for more segments in the market. This could also mean that Bentley will get the chance of becoming a real competitor for Jaguar and release smaller and more efficient cars that will not cost as much as their current models.
2017 Bentley Bentayga Review
The only problem we have with the upcoming Bentayga is that Bentley decided to use the MLB II modular platform which also underpins the new Q7 as well as the next generation Cayenne and Lamborghini SUV. While this is great for cutting costs and using an already proven design, it also means that they are restricted at using certain parts which may not be up to the task of making the Bentayga the fastest SUV on the planet. However, we do know that Bentley is going to use a specifically tuned all wheel drive system and suspension system which should at least allow them to build one of the better handling luxury SUVs on the market.
The release date has been set in the Fall of 2016 with the production model being expected at the end of 2016.
2017 Bentley Bentayga Engine
Engine wise, the 2017 Bentley Bentayga will have nothing in common with the Cayenne or with the Q7 which can only make us happy. In fact, the base version will get a twin-turbocharged V8 from the Continental V8 while the higher end model will get the same W12 as the Continental GT. The base version of the car will make around 550 horsepower and 500 lb-ft of torque or nearly as much as the most powerful Cayenne. The W12 model on the other hand could make as much as 700 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque which would make it one of the most powerful cars in the World and certainly the most powerful SUV until the release of the Grand Cherokee Trackhawk. A hybrid could also be offered at a later date but in order to be up to the task of powering the Bentayga, the hybrid system would need to provide at least 400 horsepower which also means that Bentley would have to develop something specifically for it. The transmission used on all models is going to be an 8 speed automatic sourced by ZF.
The design of the car will resemble that of the EXP 9 F concept car but Bentley is going to further refine the concept so it will not look as vulgar as that car. In the front it should borrow a lot from the design of the new Continental while the design of the back end will likely get from the original concept. As a whole though, the 2017 Bentley Bentayga will bring a nice cup of fresh air which will make a lot of people wanting one. The only real downside is the fact that it will only be available as a 5-seats model despite the fact it will be bigger than the Q7 which can hold 7 people with ease. The cabin will be quite similar to that of the Flying Spur sedan, so expect the same level of luxury and equipment as well as a similar feel to that car.
