The Viper is one of the most intriguing sports cars in the World offering the biggest engine currently on any production car. However, the design is since the 1990s and despite the fact it has always been upgraded, it is usually slower than the competing models. In order to get back in the top a new model is going to be released and we expect it to be a lot better than the current generation. The 2017 Dodge Viper is going to be the very first glimpse we are going to get towards the next generation model which is likely going to be released some time in 2018 or 2019 with a market release near 2020, so more than 5 years away.
The price will likely going to be quite a bit higher than that of the current generation, so around $150,000 to $200,000 is not out of the question. For this price the buyer will get an all new car built around a new platform and engine. The basic recipe will be kept though so we expect the same front engine and rear wheel drive setup as that of the current model. However, the car will weigh less than 3000 pounds thanks to the extensive use of carbon fiber, aluminum and other composites and the engine will be quite a bit smaller as well in order to be able to meet the emission laws.
2017 Dodge Viper Engine
While it will be smaller, the engine will most likely remain a V10 which is the defining treat of the Viper. It should be between 4 and 5 liters in displacement and it will be an all new design. However, unlike the current model, it will be a turbocharged or supercharged offering, so despite the decrease in displacement, it will most likely make more than 700 horsepower and 600 lb-ft of torque which is more than what the current model is putting out. The 6 speed manual is also likely going to be kept in order to keep the car’s spirit unchanged.
Design wise the 2017 Dodge Viper Concept will still be a Viper, so expect the same long hood and short trunk which together make a very special and iconic design. The front end is likely going to change but the car will resemble the current model nonetheless. Inside the cabin there is going to be a lot more tech than on the current model so expect a bigger touch screen which is going to control all of the usual functions such as the AC or the satellite navigation as well as a more driver focused instrument cluster which will display more information without being distracting.
