At the 2015 North American Auto Show in Detroit, Ford presented the all-new 2017 Ford GT. This super car comes with extra-light carbon fiber and aluminum construction, EcoBoost V-6 with more than 600 ponies and a magnificent race-ready cockpit. 2017 Ford GT Exterior Design
The 2017 Ford GT has a really recognizable design comparing to its older siblings. Thanks to the mid-engine, the front end has a long wedge shape. Nonetheless, the front end has sloped nose with a pair of ducts, creating a very unique and aggressive look. The rear end looks more modern than the previous GT. There is a set of flying buttress wings providing extra downforce. This model has good-looking round hips and clear cuts near the taillights, along with a large set of cannon exhaust outlets and an aggressive rear diffuser.
Comparing with previous cars, this new model is much sleeker, and it also has greenhouse which is less open and wider than the old ones.
This model did kept some of the subtle details that keep it in touch with its predecessors, for example, the outboard circular taillamps. The GT’s shape is made from carbon-fiber, so the overall weight of this model is reduced. In order to make sure that the GT is as fast as possible, but to keep the stability, every curve on it has been fine-tuned for a specific purpose. Sloped and rounded windshield cuts drag while improving visibility. The rear spoiler can adjust based on conditions. For easier entrance and exit from the cockpit, the GT has upward-swinging doors.
The cockpit of the 2017 Ford GT is designed for usability and control. The seats are integrated into the GT’s monocoque shell, providing direct connection to the chassis and better feel of the car’s behavior for the driver. This model has adjustable steering wheel and pedals, so the driver can make a perfect driving position. The F1-inspired steering wheel has all needed controls mounted to it. The gauge cluster is one large LCD display, with multiple modes.
2017 Ford GT Specs
Under the hood of the 2017 Ford GT is a new 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6 and it uses two turbos. This is a next-generation of the EcoBoost motor, which the company used in its IMSA Daytone Prototype racer. The company hasn’t revealed any numbers, only said that this is the most powerful production EcoBoost ever, producing more than 600 hp. The torque is also unknown, but it can be assumed it will be a similar number.
The company is able to produce so much power from such a small engine thanks to various enhancements that include a combination port/direct injection system, two turbochargers and friction roller-finger-follower valvetrain. The power is sent to the wheels with a seven-speed, dual-clutch transmission. Unfortunately, there won’t be a manual transmission this time. The model will use only rear-wheel drive format.
Since this model has large 20-inch alloys and low weight it should break the 4-second barrier in a 60- mph sprint, while the maximum speed should be in the 200-mph range.
2017 Ford GT Price
The price for the 2017 Ford GT will probably be competitive with the Audi R8. It can be assumed that the price tag will be around 125.000 dollars. The main rivals to this model are: the Chevrolet Corvette Zora ZR1 and Lamborghini Huracan. The bad news about this model are its high price and the lack of a manual transmission option. However, the good news are its most powerful EcoBoost ever, with more than 600 ponies, along with advanced carbon-fiber construction for reduced weight.
