The Canyon is the slightly more expensive and more refined version of the Colorado which is a compact pickup truck sold on the North American market under the Chevrolet brand. The Canyon on the other hand is a GMC and so far we were wondering if it was ever going to get the luxury Denali treatment. Well, this year at the Los Angeles Auto Show the 2017 GMC Canyon Denali has been showcased and most people were left speechless. The truck is just what its name suggests, the highest end version of the Canyon which comes with new features inside and out as well as more premium engines.
2017 GMC Canyon Denali Price
However, despite all of that it still remains based on the same chassis as the Colorado so it remains a very capable truck. The price has not been released just yet but considering that the Sierra Denali usually costs around $5,000 more than the normal model, we expect the Canyon Denali to follow the same trend and start at around $45,000. At this price point it would be a tough sell for GMC because there are many other larger and more powerful trucks which could even be more comfortable than it. It is likely that they will be aiming the truck at those looking for a rather small truck with all the features of the larger models, which would in fact make a lot of sense.
2017 GMC Canyon Denali Diesel Specs
Unlike the usual Canyon which gets as standard an inline 4 engine, the 2017 GMC Canyon Denali is going to hit the market with two different powertrains. The base model will get the 3.6 liter naturally aspirated V6 good for 305 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque. This will be mated to a 6 speed automatic gearbox which will send the power to the rear wheels or to an all wheel drive system. While it is not the most powerful engine in its class, it will offer one of the larger towing ratings of any other compact truck.
The optional engine will consist out of a 2.8 liter Duramax turbocharged diesel which has already been offered on the International model for some time now. This should make around 200 horsepower and little over 370 lb-ft of torque which will allow it to tow as much as 7,000 pounds, more than some full size trucks. Unlike the V6, this particular engine will likely be offered with rear wheel drive only in order to keep its fuel consumption up and the weight down.
The exterior of the new 2017 GMC Canyon Denali has not been left untouched and according to their other more premium trucks, the Canyon received the same treatment as well. The front end looks like a scaled down version of the Sierra with the massive chrome grille and slim LED headlights. The front bumper is new as well and it even features a small chromed protection in the front. In addition it comes with chromed running bars on the sides, large chromed 20 inch rims with on-road all-season tires as well as a color coded rear bumper. Unlike the usual model, the 2017 GMC Canyon Denali will only be offered as a crew-cab.
GMC Canyon Denali Interior
Inside the cabin there are a lot of upgrades over the base model and the biggest difference is in the quality of the materials. The seats are softer and more supportive and the front ones are cooled and heated as well. The leather is of a better quality and the equipment level is better too. The truck will come as standard with cross-path detection, frontal collision warning, a unique Denali center stack with a different infotainment system as well as wood inserts around the cabin.
