The current E-Class has been around since 2010 and back in 2014 it received the most expensive mid-life update ever did to a car. While it certainly gave it a few more years, the car is still old and on top of that, it feels worse to drive than its main competitor, the 5 Series. A few months ago, rumors about a new model started to surface and only now Mercedes showcased a camouflaged model to a select group of journalists in order to show them how good their new modular platform it.
This means that the 2017 Mercedes Benz E Class will now use the same platform found in the smaller C-Class, but it will be slightly longer and wider in order to accommodate its passengers in greater comfort. The suspension system will also be tweaked in order to offer the highest level of comfort possible rather than becoming a sporty luxury sedan like the 5 Series.
2017 Mercedes E Class Release Date and Price
The release date has been set for the next year Geneva Auto Show and when it will hit the market some time in 2017, the new 2017 Mercedes Benz E Class should be priced very similarly to the ongoing model.
2017 Mercedes Benz E Class Engine
Under its hood we are going to see a complete new set of engines which are also going to set the trend for their future cars. While a 3 cylinder will not be available, the base model is expected to get a rather small 2 liter inline 4 good for around 260 horsepower and over 270 lb-ft of torque. This will also be the first model from Mercedes’ lineup to get their all new inline 6 petrol engine which has been developed from the current modular inline 3 and 4 engines.
This will likely be a 3 liter unit offering a single or twin-turbochargers and it will be installed on all the higher end models with the exception of the AMG one which is going to get a 600 horsepower 4 liter twin-turbo V8. Rear wheel drive will be standard while a wheel drive system is going to be available as an option.
On the outside, the 2017 Mercedes Benz E Class is going to be very similar to the C Class with a round front end and the usual Mercedes grille but it the back end should be a lot more different with more classic lines that may be inspired by those of the older E Class models.
2017 E Class Interior
Inside the cabin there is going to be slightly more space thanks to the new platform and longer wheelbase and instead of borrowing from its platform sibling, the E Class will be more similar in terms of design and feel to the more upmarket S Class.
