The Panamera is a four-door luxury sedan which has been offered by Porsche since 2009, so the car is actually older than most other offerings in its class. In order to allow the car to be on top of the competition a new model is going to be released at the end of 2016 and unlike the current car, it will actually be offered in two different body options which is all new for the car. The 2017 Porsche Panamera will be available both as a sedan as well as a shooting brake. This was first announced with the release of the Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo concept which managed to make a lot of people lose their breath when they first saw it.
2017 Porsche Panamera Review
Other changes on the new car are going to include an all new platform which is said to be lighter and more rigid than before as well as easier to manufacture, so the car should keep its price despite the increase of aluminum and carbon fiber usage in its construction. The new platform is going to be the all new MSB which it will share with future VW and Audi models such as a future A8 or A9. Just like before, the platform will continue to be rear wheel drive which is great news for those looking to buy a Panamera because the rear wheel drive setup offers a much better driving experience than the front wheel drive MLB platform which will actually underpin a smaller version of the car.
2017 Porsche Panamera Engine
Under the hood of the 2017 Porsche Panamera there should be all new engines with more power and better fuel efficiency. The performance will also increase because of the 200 pounds weight loss and increase in power. The base model is likely going to make use of a 3 liter twin-turbocharged V6 which will also be offered on the S model. This should make between 320 and 400 horsepower, depending on the model of choice, and it should offer around 10 to 15% better fuel efficiency than the old 3.6 and 4.8 liter engines. The Turbo and Turbo S models on the other hand will likely make use of a newly developed V8 specifically for it. While there is not much information available for now, it seems that this new engine is going to be a 4 liter V8 developed from the Audi V8 model. However, this time Porsche is going to use new turbochargers and internals in order to make as much as 700 horsepower, depending on the model of choice. The transmission will still be the usual 7 speed PDK which will now be available on all models as standard. Rear wheel drive will come as standard while all wheel drive will also be available with certain models such as the Turbo or the S.
The design of the next generation 2017 Porsche Panamera is currently under wraps and despite a model has been spied testing, it was just a test mule so we don’t know for now how it will look. However, rumors say that the new model will be very similar to the Sport Turismo concept with the rounder front end and very aggressive lines which make it looks more like a coupe than anything else. We can only be happy about it because it gives customers more options to choose from not just the usual Mercedes or Audi which may be too dull for some people.
The inside of the car will also be upgraded considerably over the current model and even though some details are going to be kept, it will get more equipment as well as a new center console which will now sport less buttons and more touch sensitive controls which will make the car easier to use.
