The Japanese automobile manufacturer Toyota created the Scion brand exclusively in order to place the vehicles in the North American market. The Scion FR-S doesn’t have a long history, considering that the first model was produced in 2013. Outside the US and Canada, this model is also known as Toyota GT86. The FR-S is a mighty looking, sporty 2-door coupe released in 2013 in order to celebrate Scions tenth anniversary. The name itself is an acronym for Front engine rear wheel drive sport car. The first generation of the FR-S was offered without any trim levels. Since the start, not much has changed considering the model itself. In 2014, Scion introduced the special edition Release Series 1.0 at the New York Auto Show and produced only 1500 units of this model. For the 2017 model, Toyota is preparing some serious updates and a subtle redesign.
2017 Scion FR-S Exterior and Interior
Exterior wise, looking at the front, there are no any drastic changes. The headlights are a bit more beveled and sharp edged, compared to the previous models. The fog lights are smaller and differently positioned and the lower grille is slightly bigger and sportier looking. The rear end is almost the same, except for the reshaped exhaust outlets. The mirrors are totally redesigned and the glasses are tinted to give this model an urban and sophisticated look. When it comes to the interior, the dashboard is pretty much the same, compared to its predecessor, and the only thing that obviously changed is the size of the touchscreen display which is now seven inches big. Following the global standard, this model will feature an infotainment system and a rearview camera.
As far as the engine is concerned, the new 2017 Scion FR-S will come equipped with the 2.0 liter boxer four cylinder, capable of delivering 210 HP, 10 more than the previous model, with a maximum torque output of around 159 lb ft. Fuel economy is going to be increased by 7 percent, compared to the previous models. There is also a possibility that one of the options for the new FR-S will be an electric turbocharger.
2017 Scion FR-S Price
The concept of this model was previewed at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show and this baby is expected to hit the showrooms in early 2016. The price is yet unknown, but considering that the outgoing model costs around $28,000, this one will be just a little bit more expensive.
