Elon Musk is the CEO of Tesla Motors, the most interesting and biggest electric car manufacturer in the World. They first started with the Roadster which has been discontinued not too long ago. Their second model was the Model S sedan, an expensive electric luxury car which managed to become the most successful electric car in the World. In order to make that technology available to all the people in the World, Elon Musk promised an all new car, the 2017 Tesla Model 3. This will be aimed directly at the BMW 3 Series and Mercedes C Class and it will be the most advanced electric car under the $40,000 mark. In fact, Tesla said that it will not cost more than $35,000 which is might incredible considering all the technology it has on board.
Tesla Model 3 Release Date
Just like with the Model S, the 3 or III, will make use of a specially designed platform made out of aluminum and carbon fiber in order to be as rigid and light as possible. While it will be smaller than the Model S, the Model 3 will be just as impressive with a very good performance level and a lot of comfort features for its price. The release date has been announced to be in 2017 but it seems that the production model will not be ready until the first half of 2018.
2017 Tesla Model 3 Specs
Under the hood of the 2017 Tesla Model 3 we are not going to see the usual petrol engine or even a range extender but it will get a compact electric motor which is said to make around 290 horsepower and more than 340 lb-ft of torque. The engine will be mated to a more than 50 kWh lithium-ion battery pack which Tesla says it will provide well over 250 miles of all electric range. The performance will not be all that bad either with an expected 0 to 60 MPH time of less than 7.6 seconds and a top speed limited to 125 MPH. The great part about it is that the Model III will be compatible with the Tesla Supercharger Network, meaning the buyer will be able to recharge it for free and up to 100% charge level in around 24 minutes which is incredibly good for an electric car. This also makes long range trips a possibility with the $35,000 sedan.
Tesla Model 3 Interior
The inside will be specific to it but it will still get a lot of influences from the Model S. The dashboard will still be similar but the massive 17 inch display will not be available on it. Instead, Tesla is going to offer a smaller command center that will still be operated by touch in order to save money on buttons and also to make it more interesting.
The materials will be great for its class and despite the fact it will not be offered with leather as standard, the Model III will be just as good as any other executive sedan. Our only concern is that the car may only be offered with four seats which would put it behind its petrol powered competitors. However, if Tesla offers it with five seats then there is no real reason not to get one.
The exterior design of the 2017 Tesla Model 3 on the other hand will be very familiar for anyone who previously seen a Model S and that’s because it will pretty much be a downsized version of that car. However, in the front there are going to be some modifications such as a new pair of headlights while at the back it will get a more similar design to a sedan with a trunk rather than the usual hatch door. The design for the wheels is also going to be completely new in order to differentiate it as much as possible from the Model S.
