The Land Cruiser is Toyota’s flagship SUV and it has been one of the best selling luxury SUVs both in the US as well as in the rest of the World for quite some time. The current model has been around since 2007 and since then it only received a major update in 2013 when it received a major redesign on the outside as well as a slightly different engine. It is now the time for us to announce that a new model is going to be released in the near future with the 2017 Toyota Land Cruiser which even though it hasn’t been officially announced just yet, it has been leaked numerous times and it seems that it is closer to production than many people thought.
2017 Toyota Land Cruiser Review
Unlike early rumors, it is not going to be an all new SUV but rather a refinement of the current generation. The design will be changed for the better and it will get new engines in some markets which are going to make it a more desirable choice than the current model. At first, the new Land Cruiser is going to be launched in Japan as well as in the US while a bit after that it will be released in Europe and some parts of Asia and Africa.
Under the hood of the 2017 Toyota Land Cruiser there is going to be a mix of new and old engines. The US model will continue to be offered with the already old 5.7 liter naturally aspirated V8 which is good for 381 horsepower and 401 lb-ft of torque, enough to make this massive SUV move with haste. However, it is probably one of the worst engines in terms of fuel consumption currently on the market. The rest of the World will see the introduction of an all new 2.8 liter inline 4 diesel good for 176 horsepower and 331 lb-ft of torque which is mighty impressive considering its size.
This should offer well over 24 MPG on average and it should be at least $6,000 cheaper than the base offering. Both of these will be offered with a 6 speed automatic gearbox and a standard all wheel drive system with lockable differentials. The drawback is that the US market will not get a diesel which is a massive drawback in the current market. A hybrid was also rumored but at this point it seems unlikely that Toyota will be releasing any type of hybrid drivetrain for the Land Cruiser for the next couple of years.
Exterior And Interior
So far, the most amount of details we have on the 2017 Toyota Land Cruiser is about its exterior which has been completely leaked in a Japanese brochure which shows the full and what seems to be, final form of the exterior. In the front there is a new grille which also integrates the headlights as well as the daytime running lights while in the back there are new LED tail lights. The front bumper also seems completely new and there is a lot more chrome than on the previous version which suggests a price hike. This would likely hurt its sales in the US where the LX can be had for roughly the same amount of money but it should allow Toyota to improve its interior which on the new model will most likely see an all new design as well as it will get new equipment. The base version of the Land Cruiser will increase in quality a lot over the previous version. Standard equipment will include satellite navigation and radio, adaptive cruise control, leather upholstery, electric front and rear seats as well as aluminum or wood inserts on both the dashboard and center console.
