The current V40 has been launched back in 2012, so it is quite a new car. Despite that, Volvo plans on completely replacing the model with the 2017 Volvo V40 which will be using a new platform, engines and it will also get a new design. This new car will be the first of many to use the new platform which has been co-developed with Geely, a Chinese car manufacturer. This should be less expensive to make, a bit more efficient and slightly safer. The car’s rigidity will also increase by a big margin which should make driving it more pleasurable than now.
Unlike the current model which is mostly available in Europe, the upcoming 2017 Volvo V40 will also come on the US market as an alternative to the Golf and all the other compact cars. The release date will likely be at the end of 2016 and when it will be launched, the car should not cost much more than $20,000 for a base model which would be quite a good deal for a bigger compact than usual.

Its design is going to be the biggest selling point because even though it is a European car, it does look a bit different and the all new model will be no different. The new Volvo V40 2017 is going to be the first Volvo to get their all new look which will later be used on all their other models. It will look mature but a bit playful which could be the right formula, especially for this type of car.

The cabin of the 2017 Volvo V40 will also grow in size thanks to the new platform and it should now be using much better materials than before. These are required, especially in a market where most manufacturers are trying to get noticed. The dashboard will be minimalistic in look but it will offer everything the driver needs and the usual plastics on some buttons will be replaced by aluminum for a more premium feel.

Engine wise, the new 2017 Volvo V40 is likely going to be available with a range of 4 cylinder petrol and diesel engines, some of which will be naturally aspirated while others will be turbocharged. The top of the range models will both get quite powerful powertrains for their class. The T5, which will be the top of the range petrol engine, will make use of a newly developed 2 liter turbocharged inline 4 with up to 300 horsepower while its diesel version will still get a 2 liter engine, but this time with around 240 horsepower. This would make it the most powerful diesel engine in its class and it would certainly give Volvo an advantage on the European market.
