2018 Chevrolet Bolt

GM currently has on the market quite a few electric and hybrid cars and most of these are quite successful despite the tough competition. However ,ever since Tesla released the Model S, an electric car which could easily get more than 200 miles of range, GM had to do something in order to stand out from this massive crowd of electric cars. Their answer is the 2018 Chevrolet Bolt, a compact car similar in size to the BMW i3 but with a lot more style added to it.

2018 Chevrolet Bolt Review

The car was first presented only as a concept and as a platform to showcase GM’s newest technology but because many people loved the design, the car is going to go into production by the end of 2017. While at first there was no word about its price, it seems that this new Bolt is going to start at nearly $30,000 which may be a bit much, but the best part about this tiny electric car is that it will offer up to 200 miles of electric range which is possible thanks to the fact that GM started to develop a new type of batteries a few years ago and they are finally going to put them into production.

The car will likely use a similar platform to that of the Volt but with modifications so it will allow for the installation of the extra batteries. On top of that, the body will be quite a bit different with the 2018 Chevrolet Bolt receiving a hatchback-like design which adds passenger space both in the front and at the rear as well as it gives the car more luggage space. The only real drawback is that despite the extra space, the hatchback design only appeals to some people. The production model will certainly borrow a lot of the concept’s design but the glass roof, the rear curved glass or the massive wheels are going to be replaced with lighter and easier to manufacture panels. However, the active aerodynamics features of the car will carry on unchanged which is a good thing to know.

2018 Chevrolet Bolt Engine

Engine wise, the 2018 Chevrolet Bolt will use a newly developed electric motor that should make enough power to allow it to compete with the i3 or the next generation Model E. At this moment there is no official information about the output of the engine or about the technical details but we think that this will be an evolution of that found in the Spark EV, so it should provide more than 150 horsepower and 300 lb-ft of torque which would allow the Bolt to get to 60 MPH in around 7 seconds or less. The power is going to be provided by an all new set of batteries which will offer up to 200 miles of all electric range and the best part about them is that GM alongside a few other manufacturers are going to offer a fast-charge system that will give the car 100% of its range in less than 25 minutes which is incredibly good for a car expected to cost not much more than $30,000.

Interior of 2018 Bolt Model

The interior of the 2018 Chevrolet Bolt looks minimalistic and it offers all the usual equipment of a $40,000 sedan. However, the production model of the car, the 2018 Chevrolet Bolt, is going to be a bit more conservative in its looks or technology. Early reports suggest that it will look very similar to the Volt, so it will get the same dashboard and seating layout but unlike the Volt, the Bolt is going to offer different folding rear seats as well as more storage spaces inside the cabin thanks to the larger volume offered by the hatchback design.
